First Nations Housing Policies

In mainstream housing (property management) they have the Tenant Protection Act. We in First Nations Housing have our HOUSING POLICY. What I've learned from talking to housing managers across Canada is that some of our Housing policies were created from cut and paste templates passed around from First Nation to First Nation and the result is that we Housing Managers come up against situations from time to time that we cannot find in our H.P. to help us make required decisions or carry out propoer procedures. Situations such as: Evictions, sale of homes under mortgage agreements, environmental issues, hiring of staff, tendering process, delivering of new housing programse tc., all have an effect on how we are able to do our jobs. We rely on these Housing Policies and Procedures. It pays to have your Housing Policy updated to reflect the increased demands and new programs needed to serve our communities.
